April 14, 2020: President's Message
Financial Planning Association of Northeastern New York, Inc.
Adam McNeill, Chapter President
April 14, 2020
Hello everyone,
I hope this message reaches you well given the challenging health and financial times we are experiencing. I wanted to use this message to update you on a few items your local chapter of the Financial Planning Association® is doing to help you stay informed and active in the financial planning community.
You recently received communication from our Board of Directors regarding the cancellation of our annual Symposium, this May 14. It was with a heavy heart we made this decision and it was based entirely on the health and security of our participants and speakers, as well as direction provided to us by the State of New York. I am particularly disappointed as I was interested in listening to our keynote speaker, Carolyn McClanahan, M.D., CFP® return with her discussion on healthcare planning in retirement.
The GOOD news is that Carolyn will present at our May 13, 2021 Symposium!
A special thank you goes out to our Symposium Team for the work done for 2020 and already for 2021: Tom McGrath, CFP® (chair), Derek Gray, CFP®, Walt Klisiwecz, CFP®, Howard Kibick, CFP®, Becky Sorintino, CFP®, and of course – our very own Stephanie Cogan.
I’d also like to keep you apprised of future FPA of Northeastern New York monthly meetings. The rest of our season only has one more meeting - on April 23rd - when we will have Simon Reilly from Leading Advisor present The Inspirational One-Page Business Plan. I expect this subject matter will be of interest to new business owners as well as to seasoned practitioners who are looking to reinvigorate their practices. This meeting will be moved online, using the same Zoom.us platform which we successfully used for our March meeting.
Lastly, I’d like to inform you of an opportunity FPA has created to help support your efforts to give back to your community during the COVID-19 pandemic. The Financial Planning Association® has created a website for those wishing to provide pro-bono services to those impacted by the virus, and has provided supporting materials and information on how to do this on their website. Furthermore, they have established a list of planners who are willing to perform pro-bono financial planning to those hardest hit by the Covid-19 crisis. You can sign up to provide pro-bono services to your community and access the training and materials on the main page of the www.onefpa.org website.
If you have any questions regarding our Chapter’s ongoing efforts to serve you and our community, please don’t hesitate to contact me.
Thank you.
